Overview:

A structural steelwork contractor required corrosion protection and surface restoration works to an operational waste bunker facility. With live operations ongoing and restricted access, rope access provided the safest and most efficient solution — eliminating the need for scaffolding or MEWPs entirely.

The Challenge:

A major structural steelwork contractor required corrosion protection and surface restoration works to steelwork within an operational waste bunker facility. The area of concern spanned from the handrail closest to the boiler through to the waste bunker wall — including steelwork below gantry level, behind gratings, and down to concrete level. The environment presented significant access challenges, with live operations ongoing and limited space for traditional access solutions.

The Solution:

Think Access deployed a team of IRATA-qualified rope access technicians to carry out the full scope of works without the need for scaffolding or MEWPs. Working from purpose-rigged rope systems, the team completed surface cleaning, hole repair and sealing using Belzona, full preparation and repainting of all steel surfaces, and lifted gratings to treat steelwork underneath — all within a tight programme and with minimal disruption to site operations.

Client sign-off was obtained throughout, with daily activity logged digitally via the Get Konnected platform, giving the client real-time visibility of operatives, equipment, and progress at every stage.or upkeep or urgent failure response is delivered safely, quickly and to the highest professional standard.

Results:

All steelwork was restored to a clean, corrosion-protected finish suitable for final client handover — uniform in appearance and compliant with project quality standards. The project was delivered on a fixed-price basis, signed off by the client representative on completion, with full manager verification through Think Access’s internal quality process.
