Location: Riverside 2 Energy Recovery Facility
Industry Sector: Energy From Waste
Scope of Work: Rope Access: Rigging, Lifting Support and General Access.
Team Deployment: IRATA-qualified rope access technicians.
Overview:
Think Access provided ongoing general rope‑access support at an Energy Recovery Facility boiler hall. The team completed multiple visits, carrying out a range of access, rigging and installation tasks throughout the project’s active construction and commissioning phase.
The nature of this contract required Think Access to respond to a variety of scopes, sometimes at short notice and occasionally outside of standard working hours, including early morning starts to support specialist third-party teams working within the boiler.
Scope of Work:
Tasks completed across the duration of the contract included:
- Standby and assistance roles during specialist operations
- Rigging and installation of chain blocks onto beam clamps at various levels within the boiler hall
- Cranage support, including assisting with the landing and disconnecting of loads from the crane
- Installation of monkey and electric hoists onto lifting beams
- Pipe positioning and installation, using a combination of chain blocks and safety hold lines
- Fitting of window brackets and unistrut repairs
- NDT (non-destructive testing) support: rigging ropes for third-party inspectors working inside the boiler, supervising their access and de-rigging on completion

The Solution:
Teams deployed in pairs or larger groups depending on the task, with crew sizes typically ranging from two to three operatives. At the start of each visit, the crew signed onto the relevant permits, attended the morning site briefing and completed the daily task sheets before beginning any work.
For the NDT rigging works, the team arrived on site in the early hours of the morning, with work commencing at 1:30am. The team rigged the ropes, supervised the third‑party inspectors into position, and de‑rigged once testing began. They then returned later to complete the full de‑rig.
For the pipe installation visits, the team worked closely with site personnel to position and crane pipes into place using chain blocks and safety hold lines. On one of those days, the team had to wait for inductions and site passes before productive work could begin, but still completed a full scope before end of shift.
Throughout the contract, all works were signed off by the site representative at the end of each shift.
Results:
All scopes were completed within the agreed shift times and signed off on site. The team recorded no extra works across the visits covered here, and no incidents occurred. On one visit, the site representative praised the team directly in the timesheet notes, highlighting their professionalism, experience and positive attitude.
The team delivered all work safely under varying conditions—including night shifts and early morning starts—and consistently adapted to the demands of an active EFW construction site.
