Electrical Decommissioning and Removal via Rope Access

Think Access decommissions and removes redundant electrical systems at height using IRATA rope access. We carry out safe isolation, disconnection and removal of obsolete lighting, distribution equipment, cabling and containment, leaving your building clean and ready for the next phase of works.

What we do

Safe isolation & decommissioning

Decommissioning of electrical systems at height is required when buildings are being refurbished, repurposed or demolished, when lighting systems are being upgraded, or when operational changes make existing distribution redundant. Safe decommissioning begins with formal isolation and lock-off of the circuits concerned, followed by verification that systems are dead before any works begin.

Removal & controlled lowering

We remove luminaires, cable management, trunking, conduit, junction boxes and distribution equipment at height, lowering components safely to ground level using controlled lowering systems where required. All works are carried out methodically to avoid damage to the structure and to ensure nothing is left in place that could create a future hazard.

Waste segregation & WEEE compliance

All removed electrical materials are segregated on site for reuse, recycling or disposal in accordance with WEEE regulations and waste carrier requirements. We provide waste transfer documentation on request, giving clients a clear record of how all materials have been handled and disposed of.

Fire compartment reinstatement

Where decommissioned cabling passes through fire compartment barriers, we seal penetrations following cable removal to restore compartment integrity. This is a critical step that is frequently overlooked by others, we carry it out as standard at every penetration point, ensuring the building’s passive fire protection is not compromised by the works.

Why Think Access

Electrical decommissioning at height is often overlooked in the planning of building works, but inaccessible redundant systems create ongoing safety, maintenance and compliance risks. Think Access removes these systems efficiently and safely, leaving your building in a clean and compliant condition.

F.A.Q’s

Yes. All isolation and decommissioning works are carried out under a formal permit-to-work, with documented verification that systems are dead before any removal work begins.

Yes, provided appropriate safeguards are in place. We plan cable removal routes, protect occupied areas from dust and debris, and restore any disturbed finishes or fire stops on completion.
