Electrical Troubleshooting and Fault Diagnostics via Rope Access

Think Access provides fault finding and diagnostics on high-level electrical systems using IRATA rope access. When something has failed at height and you need to know why, we can access the installation safely, identify the fault and advise on or carry out the remedial action.

Scope at a glance

Fault diagnosis

Open & short circuits · Insulation breakdown · Connection failures · Visual inspection · Test instruments

Same-visit repairs

Repairs where possible on first visit · Written fault report · Remedial scope for electrical contractor

Intermittent faults · Process of elimination · Circuit-by-circuit testing · Full audit trail & documented findings

What we do

Rapid fault diagnosis at height

Electrical faults in high-level systems are particularly disruptive because the affected equipment is often inaccessible without significant planning and cost. A failed luminaire in a 20-metre-high sports hall, a tripped circuit feeding rooftop plant, or an intermittent fault in a high-level junction box — our rope access teams can diagnose and resolve these problems quickly, without the lead time and cost of scaffold or MEWP hire.

Inspection & testing of suspect circuits

We carry out visual inspection and testing of suspect circuits and equipment, using appropriate test instruments to identify open circuits, short circuits, insulation breakdown and connection failures. Where faults are found, we carry out repairs where possible on the same visit, minimising downtime and avoiding the need for a return mobilisation.

Systematic fault finding

For complex or intermittent faults, we carry out systematic fault finding using a process of elimination, testing individual circuit elements until the fault is isolated. We document each step of the process, providing a clear audit trail of the investigation and its findings for your electrical contractor and records.

Fault reporting & remedial scope

Where repairs cannot be completed on the same visit, or where works fall outside our scope, we provide a written fault report and clearly defined scope of remedial works for your electrical contractor. This allows follow-up works to be planned efficiently, with access requirements, materials and isolation arrangements all identified in advance.

Why Think Access

Finding and fixing electrical faults in inaccessible locations is something many facilities managers struggle with. Think Access provides the access and the electrical expertise to resolve these problems efficiently, minimising downtime and disruption.

F.A.Q’s

We can carry out visual inspection and basic continuity testing on control wiring. For complex BMS or SCADA system faults, we recommend working alongside your specialist controls contractor.

Yes. Our teams carry multifunction testers, clamp meters, thermal imaging cameras and other diagnostic tools appropriate to the scope of electrical fault investigation.
