Algae, Moss and Bird Dropping Removal via Rope Access.

Think Access removes algae, moss, lichen and bird dropping accumulations from high-level surfaces on commercial and industrial buildings using IRATA rope access. We restore surface appearance, eliminate hygiene hazards and prevent ongoing biological damage to building materials.

What we do

Biological growth removal & treatment

Algae, moss and lichen colonise building surfaces in damp and shaded conditions, causing surface staining and, over time, mechanical damage to masonry, concrete, render and cladding. We remove biological growth by physical scraping and brushing, supplemented by biocidal treatment to kill remaining growth and provide a period of protection against re-colonisation. Biocide selection is appropriate for the surface type and compliant with current Biocidal Products Regulation requirements.

Bird dropping removal as a hazardous operation

Bird droppings present a hygiene risk through the potential transmission of diseases including Psittacosis and Histoplasmosis. We treat bird dropping removal as a hazardous cleaning operation, using appropriate respiratory protection, disposable PPE and bagging procedures to prevent airborne dispersal of contaminated material. All waste is disposed of in accordance with applicable regulations.

Protecting building fabric from biological damage

Biological growth traps moisture against surfaces, accelerating frost damage and carbonation in concrete and masonry. Regular removal and biocidal treatment prevents this ongoing damage and extends the service life of the building’s external surfaces making biological cleaning a maintenance investment rather than a cosmetic exercise.

Planned treatment programmes

For buildings with persistent biological growth problems, we establish planned treatment programmes combining physical removal with periodic biocide re-treatment at intervals matched to the re-colonisation rate of the specific location. This programmatic approach maintains surface condition between visits and is more cost-effective than reactive treatment once growth has become established and is causing visible damage.

Why Think Access

Biological growth on buildings causes long-term fabric damage and creates health and safety hazards for occupants. Think Access removes it safely and treats surfaces to delay re-colonisation.

F.A.Q’s

Products are selected to be appropriate for the substrate. We use products that are proven to be effective against the target organisms without damaging the surface. We always test product compatibility on a small area before full application.

Depending on the product and the exposure conditions, biocidal protection typically remains effective for 1 to 3 years. We can establish an annual or biannual treatment programme to maintain surface protection.
