Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) via Rope Access.

Think Access carries out non-destructive testing of structural elements, welds, pipework and pressure vessels at height using IRATA rope access. We deploy MPI, UT, LPI and eddy current inspection methods in locations that would be inaccessible without specialist access.

What we do

Non-destructive testing at height

Non-destructive testing at height is required on bridges, process plant, offshore structures, storage tanks, pressure vessels and structural steelwork where subsurface defects, weld failures or material degradation must be identified without removing or damaging the component. Our IRATA-certified teams carry qualified NDT inspectors directly to the test location, eliminating the access barrier that would otherwise delay or prevent inspection.

NDT methods deployed

Magnetic particle inspection (MPI) detects surface and near-surface defects in ferromagnetic materials. Liquid penetrant inspection (LPI) detects surface-breaking defects in any non-porous material. Ultrasonic testing (UT) detects subsurface flaws and measures wall thickness. Eddy current testing detects surface and near-surface defects in conductive materials. We deploy the appropriate method for each application, and can combine methods where the defect risk warrants it.

Qualified inspectors & certification

All NDT is carried out by appropriately qualified inspectors holding PCN, CSWIP or equivalent certification at the relevant level for the test method and materials being inspected. Our inspectors work within their certification scope on every assignment there are no unqualified operatives carrying out or interpreting test results on our projects.

Test records & inspection reports

Test results are recorded and reported in accordance with the relevant codes and standards, and reports are signed by the responsible Level 2 or Level 3 technician. Reports include test method, equipment details, calibration records, coverage maps and defect records with dimensional data, providing the complete documentation required for asset integrity management, insurance inspection and regulatory compliance.

Why Think Access

NDT on elevated or complex structures has historically required extensive scaffold preparation. Think Access eliminates this barrier, deploying qualified NDT inspectors by rope to any location.

F.A.Q’s

Yes. Our NDT inspectors hold PCN or CSWIP certification at the appropriate level for the inspection methods they carry out. Certificates are available for review.

Many NDT methods can be carried out on plant that is in service. We work within your permit-to-work system and carry out a pre-survey to confirm that the method and equipment are appropriate for the in-service conditions.
