Siphonic Roof Drainage System Maintenance via Rope Access.

Think Access carries out specialist maintenance on siphonic roof drainage systems using IRATA rope access. Siphonic systems require specialist knowledge and the ability to work at roof level — our teams provide both, keeping these high-performance drainage systems in optimal condition.

What we do

How siphonic systems work & why maintenance matters

Siphonic drainage systems rely on sealed pipe networks that, when primed, operate under negative pressure to transport water at high velocity from roof outlets to ground level. Unlike conventional gravity drainage, siphonic systems are sensitive to air ingress, debris in outlets and pipe restrictions. Correct maintenance is essential to reliable performance, and the roof-level components require regular access that rope access delivers efficiently and cost-effectively.

Outlet inspection & servicing

We service siphonic systems by inspecting roof outlets for debris accumulation and damage, checking outlet grilles and anti-vortex baffles for integrity, vacuum testing pipe joints and connections where accessible at roof level, and clearing any blockages using specialist jetting or rodding equipment. All serviced outlets are left clear and correctly reassembled before we leave site.

Performance fault finding

Where siphonic performance has degraded, we carry out systematic fault finding to identify the cause which may be a blocked outlet, a compromised air seal, a displaced pipe joint or debris in the pipe. Each element of the system is checked methodically, with findings recorded and reported clearly so that remedial action can be targeted effectively.

Specialist drainage contractor coordination

We work with your siphonic system designer or specialist drainage contractor to identify and resolve performance issues, providing the roof-level access and inspection data they need to diagnose problems and specify remedial works. Our role is to make every component accessible and to gather the information needed, with technical decisions on the drainage system remaining with the specialist.

Why Think Access

Siphonic systems are designed to drain large roofs quickly. When they fail, the consequences are significant. Think Access provides the access and the understanding of how siphonic systems work to keep them performing correctly.

F.A.Q’s

Signs include slow drainage during heavy rain, waterlogging at roof level, and overflow from gutters or outlets. If you observe any of these, the system should be inspected promptly.

We can carry out CCTV survey of accessible pipe runs at roof level. For buried or concealed sections, we work alongside specialist drainage contractors with the appropriate equipment.
