Secure Lifting of Fragile Items via Rope Access.

Think Access provides specialist lifting and positioning of fragile, delicate and high-value items at height using IRATA rope access. We use soft rigging, custom cradles and controlled handling techniques to protect sensitive equipment and components during vertical movement.

What we do

Fragile item handling at height

Fragile items requiring rope access lifting include large glazing panels, electronic and optical equipment, coated or finished structural components, artwork and exhibits, heritage building elements and sensitive process equipment. Each requires a handling approach that prevents mechanical shock, surface damage, flexing beyond design limits and contamination risks that standard lifting methods do not adequately address.

Item-specific handling scheme design

We design a handling scheme for each fragile item, selecting rigging components slings, spreader beams, pads and protectors that distribute load without concentrating stress and protect vulnerable surfaces. The lift is carried out with controlled speed and minimal pendulum movement, with the item guided to its installation position by team members at both high and low level throughout.

Glazing panel handling

For glazing panels, we use purpose-made vacuum lifters and soft rigging systems that grip the glass without creating contact stress concentrations. Panel orientation, lift angle and approach path are all planned in advance to ensure the glass is handled within its structural limits from the moment it leaves ground level to the point it is set into the frame.

Surface protection & post-installation inspection

Handling of coated or polished items is carried out with gloves and protective covers throughout. Once the item is in position, the completed installation is inspected for surface damage before the rigging is released giving both our team and the client confidence that the item has been delivered to its installation position in the same condition it left the ground.

Why Think Access

Lifting fragile items is about control, not just capacity. Think Access provides the technique, the equipment and the care that sensitive loads require.

F.A.Q’s

Yes. We use soft rigging systems and apply temporary surface protection at contact points where required. We inspect the panel for damage before and after the lift.

Our method statements include pre-lift inspection and damage records. Where damage occurs during a lift, we stop operations, document the damage and review the handling method before proceeding. We carry appropriate insurance for this risk.
