Primary Steel Installation via Rope Access.

Think Access installs primary structural steelwork — beams, columns, trusses and frames — using IRATA rope access in combination with appropriate lifting equipment. We position, align and fix structural steel in locations where conventional erection methods are impractical.

What we do

Primary steel installation at height

Primary steel installation via rope access is used where crane reach is insufficient, where site constraints prevent crane set-up, or where the structural steel being installed is in an elevated position that requires precise human guidance to align and connect. Our teams work at height to receive lifted steel, guide it into position, and make up connections using specified fasteners and procedures.

Bolting & connection making

ECITB-qualified steelworkers in our team carry out torque-controlled bolting, temporary bolting and connection making in accordance with the project’s structural drawings and the steelwork contractor’s method statement. Alignment is verified by our teams at each connection point before joints are finally tightened, ensuring the structure is built to the correct geometry throughout.

Erection sequence & temporary stability

We work within the steelwork erection sequence agreed with the principal contractor and structural engineer, ensuring that temporary stability requirements are maintained throughout the erection process. No element is released from the crane or left unsupported until the connection has been made and verified as correct.

Method & risk management

Safety at every stage is managed through an agreed method statement and site-specific risk assessment, developed in consultation with the principal contractor and structural engineer before works begin. Our IRATA-qualified rope access teams and ECITB-qualified steelworkers operate as a combined capability, with all roles and responsibilities clearly defined before any lifting or connection work takes place.

Why Think Access

Combining IRATA access with ECITB-qualified steel erection capability in a single team simplifies programme management and reduces the number of interfaces on site. Think Access provides both.

F.A.Q’s

Yes. Our steel erection teams include ECITB Level 3 qualified operatives, trained in the safe erection, alignment and connection of structural steelwork.

Yes, provided appropriate safeguards are in place. We plan exclusion zones, protection of existing structure and operational continuity with the principal contractor and building occupier before works begin.
