Secondary Steel Fixings via Rope Access.

Think Access installs secondary steelwork, gantries, ladders, access platforms, walkways, handrails, cable management supports and parapet steel using IRATA rope access. We work at any height to complete the secondary steel package in locations inaccessible by other means.

What we do

Secondary steel after scaffold strike

We install a full range of external cladding products including insulated metal panels, fibre cement boards, terracotta rainscreen systems and composite aluminium cassettes. All installations are carried out to the project specification and in compliance with Building Regulations, including Approved Document B requirements for fire performance on taller buildings.

Common secondary steel scopes

Common scopes include rooftop plant platforms and access ladders, cable tray and support steelwork for M&E installations, parapet and balustrade steelwork, overhead crane runway support brackets, and structural connections for facade or cladding systems. We fix steel to existing structure using appropriate methods including welding, through-bolting and chemical anchors.

On-site fabrication & modification

Where secondary steel requires on-site fabrication or modification, our teams carry out this work at height where necessary, including drilling, cutting and grinding. This avoids the need to lower components, modify them at ground level and re-lift, saving significant programme time on complex or bespoke steel elements.

Hot work management

All hot work is carried out under a formal hot work permit with appropriate fire watch and suppression arrangements in place. Permits are raised in coordination with the principal contractor and site safety team, with all required precautions confirmed before any cutting, grinding or welding begins at height.

Why Think Access

Secondary steel fixings are a common programming bottleneck on construction projects. Think Access removes the access constraint so this work can be completed on programme without waiting for additional scaffold.

F.A.Q’s

Yes, with appropriate exclusion zones and protection for workers and plant below. We plan falling object prevention carefully, including the use of tool restraints, netting and debris protection.

Yes. We carry out both bolted and welded connections at height. Welded connections require a hot work permit and appropriate fire watch, which we organise as part of our method statement.
